Brisbane Queensland

The City, Fortitude Valley, and South Bank are all worth exploring, and are linked by fabulous walkways lining the river - the views are amazing on a sunny day! Many of the City’s heritage buildings have been carefully restored – Customs House and Old Parliament House are the best examples.
Fortitude Valley – locals call it “The Valley” – is Brisbane’s alternative and youth heartland, with a flourishing live music scene, and incredibly diverse stores, clubs and restaurants.
South Bank is the city’s cultural heart, with its extensive parklands leading to Queensland’s Art Gallery, Museum, State Library and Performing Arts complex, which now boasts five theatres, as well as the Convention Centre and plenty of hotels.
West End is still one of Brisbane's most diverse suburbs - just a quick walk from South Bank, and you'll be in the midst of upmarket eateries right next door to old-style delis and vintage clothing stores - a real mix of lifestyle and a multicultural dream.
A drive out to the Bay for fresh-caught seafood is worth the trip, and to finish off the day, take a trip up Mount Coo-tha at night for a view across the City's lights all the way out to the Bay.
Quick tips/suggestions
Brisbane is at its best in spring and autumn - summers are hot and humid, but winters are mild. The river's bends can confuse even the best sense of navigation - a round trip on the CityCat will help, as well as showcasing some of the most beautiful stretches of the river, from St Lucia to Hamilton.
Queen St Mall has one of many tourist information kiosks, with information and maps on most issues of interest.
Best Way to Get Around (i.e. walking, driving, taxis, public transportation etc.) Inner Brisbane is incredibly walkable - riverside boardwalks stretch from Toowong to the Valley, and across from South Bank down pas Kangaroo Point. Bring comfortable shoes, and plenty of sunscreen!
Brisbane's public transportation network has improved out of sight in recent years - the train and bus network will reach most of the city, as well as taking you to the Gold or Sunshine Coast with bus transfers.
For some of the most interesting trips - up Mt Nebo, along the Bay, or general exploration in the coastal hinterlands, it's definitely worth hiring a car for a day or two.
