What were the accommodations like?
Beautiful room with balcony overlooking the bay. Unfortunately, there were many ants in the room. We notified the front desk, but they said don''t worry about it. We didn''t like that. The location itself was excellent. The Reef Casino was directly across the street, and the hotel was right on the esplanade. We could walk to any bar or restaurant quickly from the hotel. We enjoyed our view and saw the Pacific Sky cruiseship leaving the harbour which was fun. The room had a king bed, a desk and chair, large closet, and extensive minibar. We were impressed that the bathroom had bleached and unbleached toilet tissue. We had never seen that before. The room was quiet at night, so we did get a great night's rest.

What were the accommodations like?
The resort itself was huge and had a ton of guest rooms. There was a very nice pool and there were several towers of rooms. We weren''t thrilled with our room. The room was small and right near the elevator, so it was extremely loud. We really had trouble sleeping on Friday and Saturday nights, and there was no view outside of our window because the hotel is downtown. It is only about a four block walk to the shops and bars on the Esplanade or the restaurants in downtown, so the hotel location was convenient. We had never stayed somewhere that required you to insert your room key into a slot in the room in order for the electricity to work. We found that energy-efficient, but we were not pleased that no one at the desk advised us of this fact when we checked in. We didn''t eat in the restaurants, so I can''t recommend them. We only got about 4 tv channels in the room, so there was nothing to watch. I''d say the hotel was about average, and I''d stay at the Hilton Cairns (see my write-up) before I''d come back here.

What were the accommodations like?
This is a YHA hostel, but it's not like any hostel I've stayed in before. Crocodylus offers a rare opportunity to stay in an idyllic cabin nestled beneath the canopy of the Cape Tribulation rainforest. What could be more relaxing in the searing heat of a Queensland summer than a few days in the shade. Spend days and evenings walking through the forest spotting the wildlife, which ranges from funnelweb spiders to bandicoots, feral pigs to cassowaries. Drift off to sleep listening to the sound of the wind through the trees and the nocturnal creatures scurring through the undergrowth. There is a restaurant on site, a small shop, a swimming pool, internet access, lots of guided tours and buses to take you to the nearby beach or environmental centre. Jungle tours offer packages that pick you up from your hostel in Cairns or Port Douglas and drop you back there after your stay.

What were the accommodations like?
After a scenic 2.5 hour drive up the coast from Cairns, we were thrilled to arrive at PK's. Nestled in the rainforest, just a short trek from the beach, this tiny budget resort offers a laid-back mix of adventurous travelers from all over the world. Accommodations are clean and you can choose from small occupancy cabins, 8-bunk cabins, or the campsite.
Be sure to check the bulletin board in the lobby for local events and services: we found a masseuse who gave fantastic hour-long massages for AUS$40 in her open-air hut in the rainforest as goannas walked by and tropical birds sang.
During the day, take off on one of the guided hikes, horse rides, snorkeling expeditions, or kayaking trips. Or you can rent a bike and explore the trails yourself. We pedaled across a beach sparkling with flecks of mica; the rainforest flanks the inland side and the reef creeps up out of the surf. Then we rode through the rainforest to an isolated swimming hole at the top of a stream that feeds the sea.
In the afternoon, relax in the pool or play a game of volleyball at the sand court in the courtyard. Cook your own dinner in the open kitchen, or pick up a meal at the restaurant. Then head to the Jungle Bar for happy hour (Wednesdays are the big party nights).
This vibrant paradise is not to be missed!
