Fraser Island Australia Info
Fraser Island Australia
"Fraser Island was a great adventure. We went on a three days, two night adventure with a group of people. We went in pairs of six and each group had a jeep to explore Fraser Island. It was all sand and beach and some beautiful tracks around the island. I think the most amazing thing I can remember is Mackenzie Beach. I was so taken back with this beach--the water is so clear and clean that it is drinkable. The weather was so hot as well and from all the driving once we saw this beach we just all dived right in. There was some amazing cliffs as well to climb once you get to the top.
Then camping at night was great. We all met up at the arranged place and had a big barbecue and all sat around telling stories and drinking plenty of alcohol.
Quick tips/suggestions
I recommend drinking plenty of water, and always carry a small bag with drinks, camera, and extra things. Wear very comfortable trainers and sandels. Bring two changes of clothes for the trip as you won't need anything extra. Bring a warm sweater as it does get cold at night, and a sleeping bag. Take plenty of insect repellent as well. Beware of the dingos as they are all over the place and especially at night as they are attracted to noise and of course lights and food. When you need to use the toilet always go in pairs.
Best Way to Get Around (i.e. walking, driving, taxis, public transportation etc.)
The only way to get around Fraser Island is to go by jeep or car, but I think traveling around in a jeep is excellent because you can travel more into the inland where all the rainforests are and see more of the wildlife aspect of Fraser Island, as well as the beaches."
" You don't need an awful lot of time to see the island, but its one of the highlights of Eastern Australia and all self-respecting tourists should have a look. The best starting point is Noosa, about an hour south of the island - its not too expensive, but has some great surfy shops, an awesome beach, plus a National park which is home to over 50 wild koalas. All that plus a fairly lively Irish bar, what else do you need??
Quick tips/suggestions
Even though there's a glut of accomodation, its definitely worth booking in advance, both tours to the island and accomodation. The town is spread out over 3 main areas, and walking about in the heat with a rucksack on your back is no fun at all.

I knew a few people who swore by hiring a car to see the island by themselves, but if you're like me (ie a lazy bollocks), these are to be avoided. So many times our 4x4 bus was overtaking cars which had stranded in the sand, and besides the guide on our bus was priceless in telling us all about the history and background of the island."
