The city of Brisbane is a pleasant city with nice shops, buildings and the river. There is plenty to do here and it's a good base for travel further up the coast to the Sunshine coast or Stradbroke Island. The Sunshine coast has superb beaches, a wonderful zoo and exciting scenery, such as the glasshouse mountains.
Quick tips/suggestions
If you don't like it very hot, don't come in the summer -- the temperature doesn't drop much below 35C and it's very humid. If you can cope, don't go anywhere without water, a hat, and sunblock.
Best Way to Get Around (i.e. walking, driving, taxis, public transportation etc.)
Brisbane is an easy city to get around, there are nice pedestrianised areas so walking is good, or you could use the city-kat ferry or the trains and buses.
You can take the train to Australia Zoo and you'll probably be best with a car for the Sunshine Coast to ensure you see everything, though the bus and train services are good.

What were the accommodations like?
This hostel is superb. It's a 5 minute walk from Roma Street transit centre where all buses and trains go to and from. The hostel is up a small hill on the main street and easy to find. The rooms are comfortable and in two buildings, the main one with air con and the one out the back with no air con. The bathrooms are clean and there are plenty of recreation areas, e.g. TV room, self catering kitchen and dining area, reading room plus a small garden area. There is also internet access and a wonderful cafe that serves food for most of the day, including a lovely steak and chips. Overall this hostel is centrally located and good value with friendly, helpful staff.

Describe your dining experience:
This is more of a pub than a dining place but it's so fun you have to visit. Imagine a large cartoon pub like one that Roger Rabbit or Elmo Fudd would be at home in and now you have this place. It is a huge cartoon pub in the real world. It's part of a larger complex called Aussie World which has shops, rides and games. Inside the bar there are a couple of TV's, a big pool table and a large bar area. We didn't eat here but just stopped to experience the place with a few beers. Well worth it.
